Swelling and numbness of toe

Question
As of late, the right side of the pad of the right toe has become swollen and knot-like. It is mostly numb, and does not hurt unless pushed on with a lot of pressure- either by hand or walking on it.
What could be the cause?

Answer
Hi Shera,

Usually this reults from pressure in a shoe.  I would check the shoe to make sure there is nothing rubbing or worn in the area.  I would also check for a possible splinter in the toe.  If the problem does not resolve, I would see a podiatrist.
