Broken toe didnt heal

Question
Hi Dr. Katz,

I saw a podiatrist today and it seems a toe I broke many months ago hasn't healed at all. (pinky toe) I did not go to the doctor when I did it. How common is this?  I have to choose between surgery and trying to stimulate it with patches. I'm leaning toward surgery...wondering what your thoughts are.

Thank you for such a valuable and helpful service!

Answer
Hi Traci,

I would seek another opinion.  To do surgery on a pinky toe would require a major fracture within the toe joint.  If you are in severe pain you could consider surgery.  I'm not sure what type of patch would allow the fracture to heal, perhaps its a bone stimulator.

Sincerely,

Marc Katz, DPM
