Question
Hi
For the past few days my ankle (the top side joint of my foot) has been aching and today it has started to grind when I move my foot up or down. It does not hurt but aches and really makes me cringe to move my foot. What can this be????

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist says......
The grinding is probably either an inflamed joint or some form of arthritis.
You can try...
PRICE for 3 days
Protect-wear a stiff shoe or stiff sandal while walking and try  to protect the ankle and wrap it good so it doesn't move.
Rest-walk less and limit activity
Ice-on and of as much as possible for 3 days almost constantly and then as necessary for pain
Compress-Mild ace wrap the area-which will also protect. Do this a lot
Elevate-if it throbs elevate sooner.
After the injury quiets down in a week or so-physical therapy will help.
Max dose of Alleve or Advil for 3 days, then decrease dosage over the next 3-4 days. Stop if it bothers you or if you have stomach problems.
Treat it like a badly sprained muscle.
Make sure you see an orthopedist or podiatrist to give you the best options if it continues to hurt or grind.
If you are overweight or stand a lot at work-that will also add to the symptoms above.
Hope this answers your question
Good Luck
