Question
A month ago my ankle started to hurt a bit when walking. It felt mostly on the top where the ankle and bends. A week ago my family Dr. took an x-ray which showed nothing. Since a week ago my pain is more often and now is only on the back behind the outside of my right ankle bone..surronding the ankle bone it is now swollen, warm, almost feverish and at times it feels not only painful but almost a burning feeling around the area where it is swollen. I called my family Dr. who didn't seemed to concerned. He didn't see me, refer me etc..I do stand and walk at work constantly. I haven't done anything at all that would have injured it that I'm aware of. I am only 31. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Erin,

If the ankle x-ray was negative you may need to consider a repeat x-ray by a podiatrist and consider an MRI.  There could be a stress fracture or soft tissue injury.  If there was no injury, it is possible that you could have gout which can occur in the ankle.  A test of your uric acid can give more information.
