Ankle acting weird

Question
Hello,
So I don't think I've ever sprained an ankle, though lately my left ankle has started to hurt when I walk on it. I've never sprained it, but I've frequently rolled it over the course of my life (I'm 18). The pain spreads through my foot, but for the most part is concentrated on the front part of my ankle where the leg connects to the foot. It locks and grinds, and if I make a sudden movement in a different direction there's a sharp pain with it. It also sometimes randomly gives out. I've tried tightening my shoe, and that didn't work much, it actually hurts less to walk around shoeless.

Any idea what this might be? Might a ankle brace work or should I just go see a doctor?

Answer
HI Jayme,

I would see a podiatrist and have an exam and xray.  In the meantime, a brace will help.
