Lump under great toe

Question
Hi, for at least the last year I have had a lump the size of a marble under my right big toe. It is slightly hypersensitive and tender if I poke it but otherwise only affects me if I have ran or walked a long way. There is no discolouration, the lump is firm but not boney and the skin can be moved around on top of it, I coudlnt say whether it is growing. I had an ultrasound recently which showed a growth under the ote that wraps around the flexor tendon, it has a blood supply. The doctor advised I have an MRI and see a surgeon as it could be a tumour, she used an acrynim to describe what she thought it could be but I cant remember what it was, something like PSVA. She said it was rare to get it on the toe and it could turn nasty. I am now worried that this growth could be malignant. Have you come across anything like this before? Any further light that you can shed on thr matter would be helpful.

Answer
Hi Emily,

It is unlikely to have a malignant tumor but still a small possibility.  The most common scenarios would be a ganglion or mucoid cyst.  To be certain an MRI would provide more information.  If there is fluid in the cyst, it could be aspirated and sent the fluid for pathology.  And the last option and most certain would be removal of the mass.
