Question
My grandson was born missing the 3 middle toenails on his left foot. The toe next to the big toy is somewhat hooked and it looks different than the other two. He doesn't seem to bend them at all. I am also concerned because he has an exiema type rash on both sides of his face and spreading. He also doesn't seem to be using arms or hands(not alot of movement)no trying to grab, clenched fisted. And he sleeps alot. All night(9-8:30 a.m.) and still sleeps about 8 hours during the day. He is 10 weeks old. He is scheduled to see podiatrist. But I need to know what is the quality of life for children with missing toenails and possibly missing bone? Will he be playing sports? Thank you in advance for your reply.

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Orthopedic Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Debi

Please wait for the hands-on verdict by your podiatrist-rather than mine at long distance.
Sometimes babies appear to have lost their toenails at birth-they grow back.
Babies also exhibit rashes that appear and disappear.
If you feel the rash is causing discomfort-call your pediatrician
Hope This Helps!

Good Luck!
