Question
I am 36 years old , a yoga instructor and a massage therapy student and I am
having this pain in my upper right torso.  I have extreme pain in my levator
scapulae muscle and I cannot comfortably rotate my right arm completely.
Also my serratus anterior, deltoid and even my hand hurts sometimes.  But
mostly my levator scapulae.  As soon as I raise my arm  completely and
continue to circle it, it seems to click almost just after Im in mid circle
comming down.  I have had three chiropractic adjustments and they told me
that some ribs were out of place and my thoracic 4 or 5 is very slightly out to
the right side.  I can feel it  with my hand.  I do not have full range of motion
comfortably, even though I can make a full motion. It feels like the ribs are
not following the scapulae or somthing.  I think it all started 2 months ago
after a long yoga pose called shoulder stand.  Too long of a pose at a
workshop.  Any comments?  Could my scapulae be out of place?  If so can it
be fixed?

Answer
It is possible to have a misaligned scapula, coupled with spasm of the serratus, trapezius, rhomboids, and deltoids.  I would suggest soft tissue work on these areas (myofascial release works wonders), heat, and range of motion with no weight.  During range of motion you can have an assistant stretch the appropriate areas, and this should hopefully take care of it.
