i have had a sever pain in the left side of my neck for about 3 weeks straight now.i cant work all i can do is rest.the longer i hold my head up the worse it gets. i have really bad headaches with this also. sometimes it even make me nausuas with the pain. i went to my local doctor he said it was a pinch nerve and gave me muscle relaxers and headache pill. they are not helping it is now getting worse. then i wasnt haveing the arm pain. now i have a sharp pain that goes down my neck into my shoulder and down the arm to my fingers. when this happens i cant use the arm for about 15 minutes or sometimes longer depending on how bad the pain was.my local doctor didnt do any test. i am living now off of muscle relaxers so i can make it to work for at least a few hours.i cant lift anything.i went to the chriopractor yesterday and he wouldnt do anything he said it looked worse than a pinch nerve. he scheduled me for an mri monday. he thinks it is the lower neck disc. what do you think and what can i do. i have to get back to a full days work.your reply is greatly welcomed. thank you

Renea:

Yours is indeed an unfortunate situation. I can see how your chiropractor would want an MRI done.

It is not that your situation is beyond hope. It is that you require the best of care to get well, without drugs or surgery.

I would encourage you to get the MRI done and see what is found. (I am assuming an MRI of the neck was ordered.) If the news is that you have a "slipped disc" in your neck do not agree with the first doctor who tells you to go directly to the surgeon.

If you will tell me where city you are located in, I might be able to get you the name of a specialist who can help you without drugs or surgery.

i am having a mri of my neck. i live in guin, al 35563. i would greatly appreciate any ideas or other options than surgery. thank you for your help. i dont mind driving to a specialist if they are not really close. i live in a small town and i know i dont have many options here.

Let me know if you can get to one of these. Or if you live near another state line, might be someone in that state.

yes birmingham is not that far i am used to having to go there for doctors. thank you for all of your help. what kind of doctors are these? i dont know them. the two in birmingham are probably the most likely for me to go to.

Answer
Renea:

These are both doctors of chiropractic, but they have special training which will allow them to do great things in cases such as yours.

Dr. Farmer is the one in Birmingham. He is one of the greatest doctors I have ever known and I have known some great doctors!
