Question
Hi there-

I am hoping you can help me.  I have been having lots or cracking and creaking this past week.  My neck is cracking every time I move it and it is some what alarming, I am just not used to that noise.  Also my jaw has been cracking a lot when I open my mouth, this is not so concerning as I have had TMJ in the past and have lost some range of motion.  I wanted to mention it just incase it was related.  The rest of my body is silent for the time being.  My neck also feels a little bit stiff/sore.

Thanks for your help!
Laura

Answer
Some occasional cracking and popping is natural in joints including the neck.  However, the soreness is not.  I would recommend visiting a chiropractor or osteopath for a physical examination.  You may also need X-rays or an MRI to determine the cause.

Since you didn't mention any injury or trauma, it is most likely that you have strained the area in some manner.  If the pain and stiffness increases, see a health care provider immediately.

Thank you for your question, Laura.  I hope that my answer was helpful.
