Question
Hi, I have an 8 year old daughter that just test positive on her ANA testing it was repeated and came back positive.  I wanted to know what does this mean.  The reason why her Dr. had the test done was because she was complaining of leg pains.  I was concern after telling her previous Dr. of her symptoms and her previous Dr. she just said that it could be growing pain,--she has a twin brother and no growing pains or pain---- but when I saw that she did nothing and my daughter continued with the same pain I switch Dr. and also she has leg pains to the point where she is crying.  I feel so helpless. I do give her tylenol for the pain and sometimes it goes away.  I just want to know does this have anything to do with her diet.  Lack of vitamins, etc.

Answer
Wilma,

This is a question for your doctor. I am sorry but there is no way with this amount of information to even guess what the reason for the positive ANA is. It is not from diet. Finding this out is just part of a diagnosis. You need to work with your doctor to find out why your daughters ana is positive.

Antinuclear antibody (ANA) is an antibody that your body makes when something is not working right. It could be from an infection but most likely it is from some type of autoimmune condition.

Here is a site with more information about ANA.
