Glucosamine Chondroitin and reactions

Question
I have mild arthritis (not officially diagnosed) and have been taking Celebrex for about 18 months.  I was living overseas at the time. Since returning to the States, my arthritis has intensified to the point where I seem to have "attacks" on my knees and ankles most of all.  I also experienced underarm joint pain as well as writs and hip.  I began taking Osteo Bi-Flex for about 2 months now.  I have had lesser-intensity "attacks" however, there is still some pain in the knees.  Oddly enough, about a week and a half ago I started breaking out in what looked like bites, but nothing is biting me.  the area directly behind the knee towards the inner part of the body has become enlarged, the left knee more than the right.  My question is this: do you know of others who have suffered from similar reactions to Glucosamine Condroitin?  I have stopped taking the tablets now for 3 days, but the swelling behind the knees remain as well as new areas of the mosquito-like bites, that seems to be maybe some kind of allergic reaction.  Please let me know your thoughts and advise.  Thank you for your patience.

I am sorry to hear about what you are going through. I have never heard of anyone being allergic to Glucosamine or Chondrointin. If this were an allergic reaction, you should have had these symptoms with in days of starting the supplement.

The intensifying of the arthritis and the arthritis type attacks suggest the developed of a different kind of arthritis than you have had previously. The types of swelling and the bite marks are consistent with other types of arthritis as well.

Just in case I would stay off the supplement for a while to make sure. You should call your doctor tomorrow.

I wish you good health.
