Question
Hello, Dr, Timothy..
I have a question, and i couldn't find the answer for other sources..so just wanna give it a try here..
it's not about rheumatology..

I was asked by a doctor why is it in Babinski reflex, we prick the lateral side of the sole but not the medial side?
I couldn't answer the question...

Thanks for your help..

Answer
Hi Cliff,

Not sure what the question is, are you saying a doctor asked you why doctors prick one side vs. the other? The doctor is wrong on both accounts, the Babinski sign is provacated and is used to rule out upper from lower motor lesions by running a hard or soft material from post-anterior. If the toes stay the same=good, toes go down=good, toes go up=bad. We don't touch the lateral or medial side, only the bottom center.
