Question
I have pain in my hip whenever I have to move my leg out to the side. This started about 23 years ago. I gave up skating as it was too painful. Then about 2 years ago I gave up line dancing because the side steps were too painful. The pain has gotten worse, and sort of spread. It is a burning pain in my groin, and next to the hip bone in my lower abdomen. It also hurts in my hip bone on the side and in my upper buttock. Very painful at times. Walking makes it worse. I also hurt in my flank where my kidney is, not sure if it's from my kidney or radiating pain from the hip. My KUB xray for kidney stones showed that the gap in that hip, between the thigh bone and hip bone was slightly larger than the other side. Is it better to be seen right away or wait. Can anything other than pain meds be given. Two years ago I saw a main management Dr and got some type of pain shot that was xray assisted. It made the pain worse so I didn't go back. I also have microscopic hematuria so I'm not sure if the flank pain is from my hip or kidney. Not sure where to turn next. Hate too many xrays and such but need help. Ortho Dr looked at my hip about 3 or 4 years ago and didn't see anything. They just did an xray. Thanks

Answer
Dear Victoria,

This Orthopedic Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661, Roscoe Village 60618, Ukrainian Village 60622, Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says,
For your hip pain-you can go to another ortho doc or try a good internist to help diagnose the problem.
It sounds like there may be some form of arthritis or extra tight ligaments in that hip. Try to get a good understanding of the problem to help you deal with it. For example-if arthritis-gentle movement, warm packs, occasional anti-inflammatories, avoidance of movements that cause the pain.
Hope this helps & Good Luck!
