Question
1/26/09 had THR. 1/31/09 hip dislocated while I was working on laptop in BED.  How much of a set back has this caused?

I'm so sorry to hear of your dislocation.  I'm surprised that you dislocated in bed.  I have done that in the past too but I crossed the midline and that is what caused the dislocation.

Did you move the wrong way, or cross your midline?  What caused the dislocation?

When you dislocate the first time, you are immediately at risk for future dislocations.  You should discuss this with your doctor.  You might want to ask him for a prescrption for a light brace for your leg which will remind you to be careful about the positions you move your leg into.  You might also want to ensure that the cup he put in your leg is large enough to allow for range of motion.

One time, I was given a cup which was too small and I kept dislocating.  Finally my surgeon replaced the cup with a larger one and the problem was solved.  There was nothing that the surgeon could have done differently that would have prevented this from happening, and as soon as he went in and replaced the cup, I never dislocated again.

best of luck to you.
Sharon
