Question
I am a 20 yr old, active male.6 months ago my doctor found that I had a maltracking knee after taking a MRI,for which I went through 6 weeks of physical therapy to strengthen my quads. My doctor said my maltracking was healed.Imediately after the physical therapy my ankle (same leg) started to click when I turned my ankle up and outwards sharply. My doctor told me that it seemed I twisted my ankle and to wear a boot for 4 weeks and an ankle wrap when excersizing.6 months later my ankle still clicks.I wear the ankle wrap all day which diminishes the clicking. The clicking is on the outside of the leg directly above the ball of the ankle. What can this be, and what can I do about it (preferably without surgery)?

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & South Loop Podiatrist says.......

Dear David,
For your ankle clicking-----
Sounds like your peroneal tendons are "clicking" as they may be maltracking in the fibular groove.
Continue to wear an ace wrap or ankle brace-go to Anklenfoot.com  online webstore for examples.
Wear it for up to 3 months. Avoid turning your ankle outwards.
Go see a Board Certified Podiatrist for a second opinion & get ankle x-rays. The Podiatrist will have some additional ideas-maybe orthotics or physical therapy for the tendon.

Good Luck
Hope This Helps
