Question
I broke my fibula just below the ankle line on Aug 6th and here it is Oct 13 and the doctor said the bone was healing just fine but I am still having pain in my foot (not where it was fractured). I am a single mom and in nursing school so I dont have alot of time to sit and elevate my foot except at bed time. I now have pitting edema around my ankle that will not go away. Some days I have to still wear my cam boot to clinicals because by the end of the day my foot is aching badly. I can't not flex my foot either and still have to walk with some what of a limp. I was just wondering if this was normal or if I should get a second opinion. I did not have to have any surgery.

Answer
This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & South Loop Podiatrist says.......

Dear Amber,
For your fractured fibula-----
Wear an ace wrap or ankle brace-go to Anklenfoot.com  online webstore for examples.
Wear it under the cam boot or see if you are allowed to be in a gym shoe.
Extra activity & weight will cause swelling.
Elevate above your heart and do gentlen up & down movements of your ankle-for the swelling
Unfortunately it may take more than two months depending on the fracture. see a Board Certified Podiatrist who does ankles
Good Luck
Hope This Helps
