Question
I sprained my ankle 9 weeks ago.  I was walking on a grassy hill when I heard it pop and felt a pulling sensation.  The doctor at urgent care said no weight bearing for 10 days.  That was the extent of his instructions.  At 2 weeks, I went to Walgreens for a lace-up brace so I could put some weight on it.  At 7 weeks my ankle is still swollen on the outside of my foot behind and beneath my ankle bone.  It pops and grinds when I walk and it is still very painful.  I called my regular MD who referred me to PT.

I hate to second guess my doctor but I hate even more that I could waste 6 weeks in PT only to find this should have been treated more aggressively from the start.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Serena,

Each doctor has different treatment courses.  The physical therapy is a good idea. However, since you are still having pain, I would see a podiatrist for an x-ray and possible MRI.
