Question
I read a question on this subject earlier.  my right foot now hurts often.  I was born with this toe overlapping but for about 6 months it will hurt some times even to walk.  Is there a surgery to fix this toe.  Or could it be something else that is making my foot hurt.  It hurts on the top of the foot about an inch under the little toe.

Answer
Hi Paula,

If your small toe is overlapping that can certainly cause pain in or behind the toe.  The type of shoe that you wear is important. However, in some cases all shoes are irritating.

Here is some information:

As seen in the article, surgery is often required for this condition.  At times bone is removed.  In some cases tendons are released and skin is lengthened.

You will need to see a Podiatrist and have an exam and x-rays.  They can see if your deformity is rigid or flexible and decide if surgery is needed and also determine which type of surgery would be best.

Hope that helps.
