Question
Hello and thank you for taking your time to answer my question.

I experience ankle pain only when I lie in bed at night. No other time. I feel like I have to move and elevate my ankles all the time (it gets better when I elevate them). It's definitely not big pain, but it's bothering me and it appears every single evening, although it seems to be rarer in the warm seasons.

I also tend to have circulation problems, that I can especially observe in the cold seasons with my extremities getting cold each night.

I am overweight (not severely, and I have lost weight in the past years. I'm 5'2'' and 167 lbs, biggest weight was 198 lbs). I have sprained one of my ankles about a year and a half ago and went to the doctor then, but the pain I have now is in both ankles so it probably doesn't have anything to do with that.

Sorry for the long description. Looking forward to reading your opinion.

This Chicago Podiatrist, Elmhurst Podiatrist & West Loop Podiatrist says.......

Dear Liz,

Regarding your ankle pain.First, Congratulations on losing weight! Perhaps you have pooling of your blood into your feet at the end of the day. Most people's feet are swollen at the end of the day and elevating them can help. Continue with your weight loss and perhaps try some mild compression pantyhose, to help decrease the swelling and give some aid to your circulation.
As far as the coldness-avoid smoking, and try to wear something warm across your thighs and calves-which should send more blood to the feet. It's OK to sleep with some loose fluffy socks to keep warm. If the sprained ankle continues to bother you- have it looked at by a Board Certified Podiatrist.

Hope This Helps
