Question
hi jenny

my left middle finger has been bent in the mornings. seems when i get it up, it sticks, but goes up with help from my right hand. stiff and hard to get down without me helping it. feels like it pulls in my palm.i see a dr august 11, but my chiropractor thinks i may have a detached tendon. x-rays shows nothing broken. is there an exercise, i am using aleves and hot water to help soak the pain. any suggestions?
if it turns out to be a detached tendon, what is usually done? surgery? therapy? shots? thanks for your help

regards, carol kellams

Answer
If it is a stuck tendon, they typically do some injections to help it pass through without that painful "stuck" feeling.  Basically, you can get a little fibrous nodule that keeps it from travelling smoothly under the 'bridge'.  If surgery is needed, they just cut the bridge.  Sometimes they do therapy, and that would just focus on pain relief and stretching/strengthening exercises.

Best wishes!

Jenny
