Numbness in toe

Question
Since about November I have had numbness on the outside of my big toe. It doesn't tingle or anything, it is just numb to the touch.   I did have an epidural in September, but the numbness didn't start until November. So I don't think that is it.  It doesn't hurt or anything, but it just feels weird not having feeling there.

Answer
Hi Karen,

Numbness on the side of the big toe is common because the shoe often curves and irritates the edge of the toe.

Often there may be a bunion deformity associated with the numbness but not always.

Typically, there is no issue with the numbness unless pain develops or you end up with a sore on your toe.

I would check your shoes to see if they are too tight and causing excessive pressure.

If you go to my website you can lookup bunion deformity if you have that deformity or need more information.

Hope that helps.
