Tendons sore and rubbing after walk on beach

Question
A week ago I walked barefoot for several miles on the beach. My feet started hurting during the walk but I assumed it was just muscle pain as I have high arches. The next morning the tops and sides of my feet were incredibly sore, and they still are a week later. Even stranger is that I am now feeling a squeaky rubbing inside my foot. It is more or less on the outside edge in front of the heel. This happens every time I move it. Should I be concerned about this or simply resting it?

Answer
Hi Susan,

It is common to strain foot and ankle muscles when walking in the sand.  In sand you lose support of the foot and muscles must work harder to keep your foot stable.

I would wear supportive shoes and ice the area.  If the problem does not resolve in another week, I would see a Podiatrist.
