Question
QUESTION: When ever I go from standing on my toes to back flat on my feet sometimes not all the time I feel a pinch in the sole of my foot.  It feels like two bones are pinching muscle or something.  What is this and what can I do to solve it.
ANSWER: Hi Rob,

This could be an enlarged nerve known as a Morton's neuroma.  This condition will often cause a popping or pinching sensation and can cause a sharp pain.

This sensation can also come from a problem with one of the small foot joints.

There are other conditions that may be similar so I would see a Podiatrist for evaluation and treatment.

Hope that helps.

QUESTION: THank you for your answer.  I appreciate it, yet I have have some queries about this.  One, mainly being what is happens if I do not go see my local podiatrist.  What is the worst thing that can happen.  Can it eventually heal on its own?  These questions purtain to both the neuroma, and small foot joint problems

Answer
Hi Rob,

Yes, the sensation may go away on its own.  You would likely not be damaging anything in your foot if you don't see a Podiatrist.  If the problem worsens and starts to become more painful or a becomes a major nuisance then you could seek prefessional help.

So, give it some time and see what happens.  Try ice on the area and some stretches if the area is sore.
