Question
My 16 year old daughter recently began complaining about her feet swelling and being painful. Both great toes and little toes especially are red also during this time. She has had no relief in 4-5 days now. She has basically been a healthy teenager and the only other issue I can think of is that she tends to "trip" and fall a lot. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do?

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Elizabeth,
For your daughter's foot pain. Sounds like this may be a shoe irritation problem. Make sure the shoes that she is wearing are the correct size and not worn out. To loose or too tight may cause irritation in the areas you described-and possibly explain some of the tripping. If there is family history history of arthritis-perhaps there could be a relationship with the pain & explain some of the swelling.
Best to have an accurate diagnosis by a Board Certified Podiatrist.
Your symptoms are too vague without an exam for me to make any additional suggestions.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
