Fractured Toe

Question
About two months ago I had a fall when I was out of country and fractured my right great toe.  Now that I am back in the country I finally had X-rays done and they told me that it is an avulsion fracture and a small fragment was separated in the toe.  The report says the bone is well corticated.

I am not able to bend the toe and am worried that it will stay this way.  I still have some slight pain associated with it when I walk long distances.  Is there any way for my toe to be able to bend like normal again?

Answer
HI Adam,

If you have a fracture of the large toe and a piece is at or near the joint, you will likely develop decreased motion and eventually some arthritis of the joint.  I would see a physical therapist to see if they increase the motion.  Surgery may also be an option to relieve your pain.  I would see a podiatrist to explore the options.
