Question
In May of this year I visited a podiatrist to have a painful thing removed from the little toe on my right foot. He called it a keratosis. Then he told me that he saw another one on the ball of my left foot and proceeded to scrape at it and apply white ointment. I had not even felt any discomfort on that foot. By the next morning, the left foot was extremely painful and when I returned the doctor disclaimed any connection to the scraping. A month later I went to a different doctor and got a cortisone shot which took the pain away in the bottom of my foot. Then I began to get very sharp pains on the top of my foot. I waited two months and then got another shot and the pain got even worse. I am wondering if this is a neuroma, if it's a reaction to the shot, if it was caused by the initial scraping on the bottom of my foot (nerve damage?), and if cryo surgery could help. The doctor told me that it won't help because the pain isn't on the bottom of the foot. I am getting some relief this week from the new Tylenol product, Precise. I appreciate any light you can shed on this. Thank you so much. Sheila

Answer
Hi Sheila,

I cannot comment on what caused your worsening pain because I did not examine or treat you.

I can tell you that the dr. that told you that cryosurgery can only help nerves on the bottom of the foot, is incorrect.  There are nerves on the top and bottom that can be causing pain.

Tylenol is not a treatment for pain and you need to have someone actually come up with a proven diagnosis so that you can have the proper treatment.

Cryosurgery may be an option.  I would only know that if I saw you and did an exam and ran a few simple tests in my office.
