Question
I walked approximately 3 miles at a moderate pace in flip flops.  The left shoe seemed to be too big, causing me to change my gait.  After walking about 2.5 miles the outer side of my left foot began to hurt.  I thought it was just a muscle spasm, but it continue to hurt the following morining, espically when I walk, stand, or flex my toes.  What is the diagnois and treatment?

Answer
Hello Kai,

This is likely an overuse injury of the foot.  You strained the soft tissues on the side of the foot.  This includes tendons and muscles.  I would ice the area and wear supportive shoes.  It is really important to avoid non-supportive shoes when doing activity.

If the symptoms do not resolve or worsen in a week, I would see a Podiatrist.  I

Sincerely,
