stabbing foot pain

Question
The other day as I was walking down the sidewalk I felt an extreme stabbing feeling in my right toe. It was so sharp and painful at first I thought I had stepped on a piece of glass or a sharp object..I had to remove my shoe immediately as I couldn't even walk and rub my toe and I checked the shoe but couldn't find anything in there. Then this afternooon as I was getting out of the shower and I honestly can't remember if it was the same foot or not I experienced another sharp stabbing type pain on the bottom of the foot about an inch down from the toes in the middle. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Neil,

Sudden sharp foot pain can often come from jamming of a joint or crushing of a nerve.  I would see a podiatrist if the problem continues and have an x-ray to check the joint.  A basic exam can reveal other sources of foot pain as well.
