swelling at 6 months post neuroma surgery

Question
6 months ago I had a neuroma removed. my doctor said that the tissue is remodeling itself and that the swelling may last this long. I am very active and it still continues to swell every day. It is very uncomfortable and interferes with long distance hiking. I experience occasional nerve twinging in the toes above the neuroma. The feeling of a nail being driven into the bottom of my foot has gone away. Thanks for any advice!!

Answer
It can take up to 9 months for internal healing to be close to finished.
Sounds like some physical therapy may help and may be your best bet. Wrapping always helps swelling. Sometimes a cortisone injection may also help if there is still scarring and inflammation.
You didn't mention what long distance is-but if it's more that 10 miles with a pack or extra pounds-then that can be a lot.
Orthotics may also help in your boots
If your doctor doesn't like any of the above-seek a second opinion---not to disagree-but to get you better!
Hope this helps
