Question
Hello, my name is Gregory. During Thanksgiving of 2007, I was getting into a tree stand and a branch broke and I fell out, landing on my heel. The doctors said I splintered one of the bones that connects to the heel and chipped a peice of bone off my heel. Since then, I have had major pain on my ankle, to the point where I can barely walk on it. I had a split placed on it, and right after, I was placed in a "Ski Boot" that I received from the MD that I went to. I used crutches and stayed off it. But now, I can walk on it, but im on my feet constantly, and it gives me pain non stop. I cannot run off my heal, I have to take steps and runs off the front of my foot. And when I lean a certain way, my ankle gives out. Why is my ankle doing this? Why am I still having so much pain? And is there something that could take the pain away?

Answer
Hi Gregory,

You should have an MRI to see if there is damage to the ankle.  After injuries of the foot and ankle you could have a hidden fracture inside of the ankle joint.  I would see a podiatrist and have this checked.  The name for this condition is a talar dome lesion or osteochondral lesion.  This may be a cause so have it checked.
