Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenter.com says.......

Dear Alexa,

The pain in your big toe may be due to arthritis of the toe joint, thickening or incurving of the nail causing pressure, or a bone growth(less likely).
You can try Advil or Alleve for a few days and see if you get improvement.
If the toe pain goes away completely with the Advil or Alleve-suspect arthritis of the toe joints near the tips.
All pain should be examined-since it is a warning sign!
An office visit with a podiatrist should be able to help you. The podiatrist can decide if a foot x-ray is necessary-if a bone growth or spur of the toe is suspected.
Thickened nails may cause pressure-which can be relieved by trimming or grinding away the toenail.
The podiatrists of AnkleNFootCenter.com are specialists in toe pain cases.
We are located in Chicago & Elmhurst.
Hope This Helps
Good Luck!
