Question
Hope you can help last May 2009 I had  a major staph infection in right grand toe was  told it was from fungus and after  three surgeries to drain it and  then the nail being removed I was told I needed to have matgrixectomys to remove nails so I  would never get infections again .So in July the matrixecotmy was done with laser and chemical it took until late Sept for scab to come off had to be cut off  and there was a piece of what looked like nail under the scab that the doctor yanked out with tweezers saying it was probably just skin .Now its May and the doctor says its nail and it is lateral on the toe .He said I could maybe just leave it alone  but my fear is that it is getting bigger .Can it be left alone  or do I have to have procedure again and after all that toe went through how safe is that ? I had other toe done in DEC and  not sure if they got the nail then either .
Thanks in advance for help

Answer
Hi Diane,

If the toenail bothers you I would consider having a traditional matrixectomy with chemical to remove the remaining nail portion.  If you have a thickened nail and fungal infection, I would consider laser toenail fungus treatments.  This is a new technology and I use a CoolTouch CT3 PZ laser that has excellent results.
