Question
Hi,
I went to a podiatrist last Saturday to have a corn removed from the tip on my toe.  After the procedure my toe hurt but i didn't think much of it until i notice the toe was red and swollen.  I went back to the podiatrist (and he charged me)and he put me on Erythromycin 500mg. Should I be concerned since i did not see the instruments sterlilized? Is it common to get an infection having a corn removed from the tip of your toe?

Answer
This Chicago, South Loop & Elmhurst Podiatrist of AnklenfootCenters.com says.......

Dear Veronica,
For your toe infection. It is not common to have an toe infection-unless the infection was about to happen no matter what. I cannot comment on the sterility of the instruments. There are different procedures in different offices. Usually the instruments are in a disinfectant tray.Just ask. Our procedure is to use sterile instruments.
That is why we have developed a Podiatry based Medical Mani-Pedi.See at http://www.anklenfoot.com/MedicalSalon/tabid/163/Default.aspx
Additional concerns should be directed to your podiatrist.
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
