Question
Dear Dr Katz, I fell on a concrete stair, breaking the toe upwards and to the right. It was splinted at the ER and after 8 months; I suspect it healed unaligned, because it is shorter than the same toe on the left.  The still gives me pain while and after heavy walking (or jogging).  I previously enjoyed running and hope to resume this.  Is there anything that can be done to rehabilitate the toe?  Thank you, Gwen

Answer
Hi Gwen,

I would see a podiatrist and have an x-ray taken. The toe likely did not heal straight or possibly the ends did not heal together at all. You may need additional treatments that could include physical therapy or even corrective surgery.
Good Luck

Sincerely,
