Question
Hello,
My question is the bottom of my left foot the outer left side is sore and goes about one inch in from the outer left side.  I have been training for a half marathon and havent had any trouble with it until just recently.  In addition I have notice that while keeping my left heel on the ground and lifting my toes as far as I can up that I hear a pop in my ankle and that is repetitive(meaning I can do it over and over and get the pop) any kind of feed back would be excellent.

Answer
Hi Sanders,

The foot pain that you describe sounds like overuse of the peroneal tendons.  The muscles from the leg form tendons that go behind the ankle and into the foot.  The pop that you feel may be the tendons moving out of their normal position behind the bone.  I would ice the area and try to wear very supportive shoes and consider a thin ankle sleeve to support the area.  If this continues i would see a podiatrist.

Sincerely,
