Question
My mom has a lot of pain in her spur and foot. She has been wearing insoles that help a little with the pain. She does a compress every day and she tried stretching.

Is there anything else she can do.

She has orthotics but they are too painful to wear.

Answer
Hi Ira,

To start, ice, stretching and anti-inflammatories such as Advil/Motrin(if not allergic to these, on blood thinners or stomach irritation/ulcers) are good choices.

If the orthotics are too painful, they likely are not fitting correctly and need adjustment.

Other helpful treatments include night splints, cortisone injections, physical therapy, weight loss, supportive athletic shoes, not walking barefoot.

See my site for more information, don't give it may take a while.  If not already doing so, she should be seeing a Podiatrist.

And an article that I wrote has alot of information:

Good luck and I hope she improves.
