Spinal Fracture

Question
I recently had a fall resulting in a spinal fracture. The X-Ray was taken of the thoratic area. Can a fracture in this area of the back cause pain/tingling sensation in my arms. Sometimes I feel the pain in the muscle between the elbow and the wrist in both arms but at different times, and other times it feels like the pain comes from the shoulder area. I also have experienced a loss of sensation in the thumb, index and middle finger of my right hand and have noticed that in the last three days.
I fell on March 17, 2009 can all these symptoms be related to the fracture.
I also suffer from "Bamboo Spine"
Thank you in advance for your time.
Sincerely,
Tammy

Answer
Tammy,
Many times the effects of an injury that are easily seen are not the cause of the malfunctions.  We have found that many times it is above or even below the site of the injury.  What you are describing relates to trouble along the nerves that are exiting from your neck and not your thoracic spine.  The fact that you also have "bamboo spine" from Ankylosing Spondylitis also tells me that you have previously had some underlying cause.
I would highly suggest that you employ the services of an Upper Cervical Specific Doctor whose job it is to locate and correct the cause of your ill health conditions.
