Question
I'm 66 and normally in excellent health. Daily runner (40-50 miles a week), life lite weights 3 times a week and swim one mile in the pool once a week. I've developed a back situation that comes on suddenly. It happened 5 months ago and again last week.  It's a pain that comes on suddenly, usually in the morning after a night's sleep. The only way I can describe it is that one sudden movement brings on an excruciating sudden pain that is incapacitating. It occurs if bending or trying to sit. The middle of the lower back almost at base of my spine. It's almost like the most painful "pinch" feeling that you can imagine. It subsides if I can get myself to straighten up and it relaxes somewhat, like a cramp. When the pain subsides (very quickly) I gently go about my business, but gently and carefully. Strange though, I can still run without problems although I can feel some "loseness" in my back until I warm up...then all pain, aches, etc. subside.  I've tried Ice, heat and ibuprofen....Main concern is that initial painful jolt. Any thoughts?  Thanks so much
