knee replacement flexibility

Question
Three years ago I had a complete knee replacement. I am now 55. The replacement seems to have been successful with the exception that I have never regained forward flex in my knee past 100 degrees. I was able in only a week to get my leg straight out which was the surgeons main concern. Although I have been active both in exercise, yoga and recreational activities, the flexibility never returned. I have been told that scar tissue has built up and is preventing further flexibility. I know others who regained 120 degrees flex. After this amout of time, can anything be done?

Answer
Hi Bart,

It's great that you have full extension, but 110' of flexion is what is typically considered "functional".  Are you having any functional limitations?  If not, then I'd leave well enough alone.  If you are, contact the surgeon and ask if another consultation or perhaps a course of mobilization/stretching by a therapist or athletic trainer would be safe and beneficial.

Best wishes,

Jenny
