Too thin?

Question
Hello,

  Within the past year, I've lost some weight, and I'm very happy with the way I look. I am female, 5'3, 25 years old, and I used to weigh about 120-125 lbs. Since I've become more interested in nutrition and fitness, I've managed to lose some weight. I now weigh 105-110 lbs. I feel good and I like the way I look. About 4-5 months ago, while working out, I injured one of my ribs. It's still healing and I haven't been that physically active for months. I am only able to walk, that's it. My father said to me that I most likely injured my rib because I'm too thin, and that it's taking so long to heal because I'm too thin and that my rib cage is being compressed, which is why I'm still experiencing so much pain. (although the doctor's feel that my rib has become dislocated, which is why I'm still in pain) But my father said that being as thin as I am is perhaps puts me at risk for breaking my bones more easily. He seems to think that just sitting down on the couch too hard will break one of my ribs! I disagree with him. I like the way I look, and I follow a healthy diet. I have a good amount of energy, and I take supplements. I eat a LOT of calcium so I don't feel that my bones are brittle. I eat 2 6 oz containers of yogurt per day, sometimes 3. Plus, I have milk every morning with my cereal. And I usually eat some cheese either with lunch or dinner. PLUS, I take calcium supplements (1000-12000 mg per day). Is it even possible for a rib cage to be "compressed" as my dad suggested? I don't think skin is THAT strong, enough to compress my bones. What is your take on this?

I do not see how being thin has anything to do with your rib problem. I see lots of very over wieght people with subluxing ribs.

There is no evidence that being thin puts you at more risk for musculosketal problems. Thin, light skin people due tend to have a higher rate of osteoporosis as they get older. People who fit that description should be a little more careful and make sure they get the calcuim they need and exercise.
