Question
Hello, I fractured my ankle two weeks ago, I was seen at the hospital at the fracture clinic and they put me in a cast after x-ray. He said it was a crack on the outer "ball" of my ankle and it was "stable." He also said that I wouldn't need an operation and I would need a cast for 4-6 weeks. I have had this cast on for two weeks so far an although the pain has subsided somewhat I still feel a "popping" "cracking" feeling near the injury! Now I am worried I will require an operation and I feel it's not healing, does this noise/feeling mean that healing is not takin place an does it mean operations are required? I want to avoid this as I have 4 children to care for and I am finding it difficult not being able to walk. Is this normal to happen after fracture?

I am just worried. I also wanted to know how long it is until I can walk on my leg.
Also I had a gauze and plaster placed in a blister I had and I am wondering if that could be causing the popping sensation?

Thank you in advance

Dear Samantha,
This Chicago Podiatrist located in West Loop 60661,Roscoe Village 60618,Elmhurst 60126 & Bartlett 60103 says...
Call your doctor & speak to the nurse. The nurse can ask for you.
May just be tendonitis of the tendons near the fracture site. Pain is a good indicator that the bone is not healing due to movement. Call to make sure!
Hope This Helps!
and
Good Luck!
