4 years after hip replacement

Question
I had a full hip replacement 4 years ago with no problems.  I am now experiencing some thigh pain. The
x-ray at my last checkup looked as good as when it was first done. Any ideas why this is happening? I try to go for walks on a regular basis for exercise.

Answer
Hi Margo

Sometimes as THR patients we get pain for no reason.  It could be that you pulled a muscle, that you slept wrong, that you overdid something, or you bent the wrong way.

If the pain is in the soft tissue I wouldn't worry too much.  If your X-rays are coming back good it's probably a muscle or tendon problem.  Give it a little time (you don't say how long this is been going on), and see if it gets better.  I bet it goes away fairly quickly.  Try using heat on it and rest the leg a bit.

If it does not go away, see the doctor again.
