Question
I have had pain in the upper left thigh on and off ever since having a total hip (L) 2 yrs. ago. x-rays all are ok.At first the dr. told me it may take 1 yr. but to be honest, it seems that this pain is not getting any better - possibly a little more frequent than 1 yrs. ago. any suggestions - 2nd opinion?? Thank you. Carol

Answer
Hi Carol

I have a few thoughts.

Has your doctor ever looked into the possibility of nerve damage?  You might want to ask him about that possibility.  If you did get nerve damage, you need to give it about eighteen months to heal completely.  Since this is at the two year mark, if there was nerve involvement it might not get better.  Your idea of a second opinion is definitely something you need to consider.

Also, have you looked at the length of your legs?  If one leg is as much as 1/2 inch longer than the other, your gait may be off and you may need to get a lift in your shoe.

I don't know what your level of exercise is, but it might be possible that you are overdoing things.

Your question was very general, and I hope that I have given you some food for thought.

Sharon
