A lump underneath my foot

Question
Hi,

I have a lump of it seems, skin underneath my foot, almost near my little toe. It doesn't hurt, but sometimes, when I walk, it feels sensitive and when I take a shower, I can feel blood rushing there. If I directly poke it, I can feel it and it is sensitive, especially around the edges. It looks like a blister, but has been there for a while. It can't be a cyst because there is no liquid inside. It has grown, I think, a few millimeters. Do you have any idea what this could possibly be? Thanks a lot.

Answer
Hi Jasper,

There are different types of growth in the foot.  There are plantar fibromas which are usually hard.  There are lipomas which are fat tissue and there are cysts.  Some cysts have such a thick fluid that it seems that they have no fluid.  These cysts include ganglion and mucoid cysts.
In all of these cases the mass may be around a nerve and can cause pain and burning.

Here is a link to the various cysts:

I would see a Podiatrist for an evaluation and treatment.  These usually do not disappear on their own and in some rare cases they can be worrisome masses.

Hope that helps.
