Question
Hi, I've been having this aching pain on the outside of my foot near my heel. It comes when i walk or run. There is no swelling or redness so i don't think it is very serious. I am training for a marathon right now, so should i stop running for a week till it heals or could i still continue with some light runs.

Answer
Hi Vanessa,

Since you are a marathoner, I would see a Podiatrist for an exam and x-rays.  You may be able to get a pair of custom arch supports and some physical therapy and continue with a light workout while healing.

The pain you describe may be inflammation of a structure known as the fascia.  It may also involve some irritation of heel nerves.  These problems can occur without redness or swelling.  They will often worsen if not treated, so please have an exam.
