Question
Hi,

I'm a white male, age 70. I have a problem with toenails, in that they're quite thick underneath, and curved (semicircle,) too thick to cut with the usual toenail clippers. I have some luck with large scissors, but it doesn't do a good job. I'm wondering if there is something I could buy that would do the trick, and, if so, where to find it.

Recently a dermatologist said I had athlete's foot, and prescribed Econazole nitrate cream, 1%. I admit I haven't been consistent in using it.

Also, I wonder why the toenails are the way they are. It hasn't been a lifelong problem.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Dear Milton,

     Toenail Fungus Facts--
Laser for toenail fungus may be 65-89% effective-depending on the laser used & the technique of the doctor. Most patients need a second treatment & sometimes a third. Laser for toenail fungus is not covered by insurance. Penlac  & other topicals do not work because they can't penetrate the toenail. Oral meds may be dangerous to your liver.
You see that nail fungus can be quite difficult to treatment
That said-unless you have financial difficulties-why not let a Podiatrist trim them for you.If you cut yourself-you can get a pretty bad infection.
If you wish to trim yourself-then look at our AnklenFoot.com online store for an example   http://www.ourdoctorstore.com/tsatsos/store/search.asp

Good Luck
Hope This Helps
