Question
Hi Dr. Katz
My mom dropped a pan on her big toe last week and it had hurt her then but after a while it was ok. But now it's hurting her a lot and the toe looks like it is kind of swelling and it is kind of blue under her nail. What should we do? She doesn't feel that it's a big deal and doesn't really want to see a Doctor. But it is hurting her a lot and the only way she feels better is when she takes some pain pills.

Answer
Hi Remy,

If she still has pain she needs to see a podiatrist for an x-ray.  She may have a fracture of the toe.

Sincerely,
