Question
Dr Katz,
I had plantar fasciitis 2 years ago and it was treated by physical therapy and orthotics and injections.  I got better and I started walking miles but I was also working part time job that requires a lot of walking.  I thought I was cured.  But after I took a full time job where I had to walk a lot. And in addition I was walking during lunch time to keep myself fit, plantar faciitis recurred and now I did physical therapy, new orthotics, corticosteroid injections ESWT and stopped walking but still work full time job, I cannot get rid of it.  I cannot standup for even five minutes and I start having alot of pain. In the morning I have pain even stretching does not work.  I have gained weight and I am 36 years old and I think that I have to live my life in pain.  I cannot take motrin because I have one kidney.  I am scared of surgery and even if I go back to part time job this will not get rid of my pain.  Please help!.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Sarah,

There are other options for the heel pain.  Look at my website and look at the details for cryosurgery.  This is minimally invasive with quick return to work.  It is very successful but does not work for everyone and may require more than one treatment.

With this procedure, the heel nerves are frozen to stop the pain.  The orthotics should support your foot well and take away the abnormal forces while your nerves regenerate from the freeze.  This may be an excellent option for you.
