Question
Dr. Katz,
I am very new on the subject of foot care. But I am having a problem. I have been experiencing discomfort in my right big toe for quite some time. My toe has been turning yellow and brown and has cracked. Well, I was trimming my toenail one afternoon and all of a sudden, it just popped off. I totally panicked. That is when I have been cleaning it thoroughly and applying anti-fungal liquid. It has been helping but I'm just scared to go to a doctor. When it grows back it grows abnormally. Is there any over-the-counter or any home remedies that I could before I go and see the doctor? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
Hi Aimee,

It sounds like a fungal infection of the toenail.  There are pills and many over the counter remedies, many which do not work.

The latest treatment is using a new laser called Noveon by Nomir Medical.  The results have been very promising.

Sincerely,
